Prestige, Innovation, Excellence Prestige Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi is the oldest higher education institution in Romania. Since 1860, the university has been carrying on a tradition of excellence and innovation in the fields of education and research. With over 26 000 students and 800 academic staff, the university enjoys high prestige at national and international level and cooperates with over 250 universities world-wide. The National Education Act, which came into force in early 2011, imposed university classification and curricula ranking. As the result of the evaluation process of May 2011, the universities in Romania have been classified in three categories: a) universities of advanced research and education; b) universities of scientific education and research, or universities of artistic education and creation; c) universities focused on education. Following the national evaluation process “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi ranked 3rd out of the 12 universities of advanced research and education.
